Cultivating Health: Meet James & Karin

Greetings! We are James and Karin, partners in love, life, and a shared passion for the culinary arts. Our journey into ancestral eating was born from both necessity and anticipation – as we prepared for our first child while simultaneously healing from Hashimoto’s disease. Through this experience, we discovered the profound healing power of real, traditional foods in addressing gut issues, fatigue, and brain fog.

Like many of you, our pregnancy journey began with challenges. But as our baby grew within me, so did our understanding of food as medicine – wisdom that echoed through generations before grocery stores and food pyramids existed. This awakening led me down an unexpected path, one where I discovered the profound nourishment found in traditional foods – rich bone broths, pasture-raised meats, and mineral-dense organ meats that our ancestors knew were essential for creating new life.

Living in suburban South Florida, we committed ourselves to sourcing only the finest local ingredients, developing relationships with nearby farms and ensuring our food makes a direct journey from pasture to plate. In our kitchen, we’ve crafted recipes that blend ancestral wisdom with modern understanding, rooted in animal-based, keto, carnivore, and paleo principles – creating dishes that make us say “YES” to eating at home and “NO” to processed foods and harmful seed oils.

Here at Mama’s Pasture Plate, we’re creating more than just another pregnancy food blog. This is a sanctuary where ancient wisdom meets modern motherhood, where we explore:

  • The forgotten art of traditional pregnancy foods that sustained generations
  • Seasonal eating that aligns with nature’s rhythm and your body’s needs
  • The healing power of properly prepared whole foods
  • Time-tested techniques for optimal nutrient absorption
  • Ways to honor both your cravings and your baby’s needs through real food

Our mission is simple yet profound – to empower expecting and nurturing mothers with wholesome, flavorful, and nutrient-rich dishes. Each recipe shared here carries not just nutrients, but stories – stories of healing, of tradition, and of how our grandmothers and their grandmothers nourished new life.

Whether you’re battling autoimmune issues, preparing for pregnancy, or simply seeking a more nourishing way of eating, you’ll find a place here. Together, we’ll explore recipes that honor both our bodies’ ancient wisdom and modern nutritional knowledge.

Join us as we rediscover these time-honored traditions, one nourishing meal at a time. Let’s create a new story of maternal health – one that bridges the wisdom of our ancestors with the needs of modern motherhood.

To vibrant health and thriving babies, James and Karin
